Effective 03/01/2009 to 06/29/2009

Regulation Authority:

RIGL 40-6-8

Purpose and Reason:

Effective March 1, 2009, to provide expanded categorical eligibility to those Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP- formerly called the Food Stamp Program) households in receipt of a TANF-funded service, which will result in the elimination of the requirement for a resource test. Additionally, to increase the gross income eligibility requirements for SNAP households from 130% to 185% of the Federal Poverty Level.

Brief statement of Reason for Finding Imminent Peril:

To simplify the SNAP rules for eligible individuals and increase participation in the program. The Department of Human Services believes this is necessary to address the needs of RI citizens in the current economy.
